Chez Weng Review (non halal)

Chez Weng AKA Weng's Place in French was not an eatery to be missed if you so happen to be on the Northern Side of Penang.
Featuring a semi fine dining with a touch of romantic dining experience catered for couples, families or singles who just wants to hang out and enjoy the environment. They have a bar to cater for those who are hanging out with friends for a drink.
The romantic lightbulbs setting
Down to a more quiet second floor of which the lamps reminds one of overseas street fine dining experience.
The view from the second floor
Other than beers, they serve a fine variety of wines
The bulbs that reminds me of the quiet christmas atmosphere
Fresh bread and Dukkah
Pizza with Portobello mushroom, Garlic Confit and Truffle Oil which comes in American style thin crusts. What is special is that the chef actually selects the best and freshest ingredients he could get in the market.
Serrano Ham
Prosciutto of which I like the freshness of this when it was coupled with rock melon.
Duck Confit. I love the taste of the sausage in this dish coupled with the imported whole duck drumstick.
Atlantic Salmon. If you would want a fresher cut, you would have to catch those salmon yourself. The mashed potatoes coupled with the butter sauce is something not to be missed.
Pork Belly would be my favourite dish. Cooked to perfection and juicy tenderness with a layer of crispy fat on the top without the pork scent, it makes this dish memorable. The secret? 3 layered meat from the best cut and Sous Vide, vacumm packed and cooked in low temperature for a long duration (usually over 48 hours).
Squid Ink Aglio Olio with Seafood. Unlike your usual pasta cooked with squid ink, this pasta itself contains the squid ink making it less messy for those who needs to socialize after the meal. It's a dish with all the taste without the guild of appearing with a black tongue served with a generous amount of seafood(squid, shrimps, scallops). In the process, I got to taste the real squid ink which was not used for this dish and ended up black mouthed for the next 3 hours after few pints of beer.
US Black Angus Tenderloin. For those who know me in person, you would have known that I was allergic to beef. Yes, I had difficulty breathing after the meal despite taking antihistamine due to testing this dish. So guys, appreciate it that I almost died to introduce this dish to you all. On a light side, it's cooked using the same method as the pork belly. Don't be fooled by it's appearance as a black slab of medium rare meat as it's real juicy and tender on the inside. What made me took the risk? The taste of the food so far which tells me I would regret not knowing how this taste like.
Autralian Rack of Lamb. Cooked medium rare served with potato cake which one of my friends refer to as "chai kueh". I laughed so hard at that joke as none of us knew it was potato before we actually taste it. If I would be asked to describe this dish, it would be "right portion, juicy and tender".
Panna Cotta with a touch of strawberry and chocolate.
Apple Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce.
Banana Strudel with Peanut Butter Ice Cream & Chocolate Sauce. Both the strudel and Apple Pie with their respective ice cream was like the yin and yang of the dessert I had. One warm the other cold but complements each other to give you the perfect combination of taste. Anyway, this is coming from someone who doesn't really fancy both strudel and pie all along. I am glad I took the courage to try things out here and never regretted it a moment. Special thanks to http://yourfoodreview.com/ and http://myoo.my/ for the first invitation to dine here. Anyway if you feel the price of the dishes are on the high side, you could visit myoo.my for discount coupons as they are always in cooperation to give you some of the best deals ranging from 50% off total bill, Valentine special, RM18 for pizza etc. Oh yes did I mention they have a live band entertaining you while you dine? Do call them to find out more on the live band.
